The city of the hanging Houses: Cuenca

If you live in the east coast area of Spain and you want spend a weekend walking through the scenes of a movie, you can not visit the beautiful town of Cuenca. Its natural position straddles a steep spur whose sides precipitate into the deep gorges of the Júcar and Huécar rivers, making it a truly unique place.

In fact, they are so called because they are brick houses suspended and supported by beams that are cling to the rocks. They were built starting from the XIV in a very surprising way for the time. In 1996 historical Cuenca center, the Cuenca Cathedral (The Cathedral of Our Lady of Grace and Saint Julian) with its other churches, the Bridge of Saint Paul, the Bishop's Palace, the Seminay, the Castle, the famous Casas Colgadas (Hanging Houses), the Mangana Tower and more have been declared patrimony of the humanity.
The Spaniards who spend time in Cuenca knows well that is a must have a lunch with:
Morteruelo, a kind of pâté made of different kinds of meat, mainly hare, partridge, hen and pork. and endig with Alajú an Arab cake made of honey, almonds, nuts and grated orange rind.
Ajo arriero, made of cod, potato and garlic, can be spread on bread
Migas con Huevo, made of dry bread, eggs, garlic, olive oil, salt and water.
Finally they ending with Resoli, a typical drink, and Alajú, an Arab cake made of honey, almonds, nuts and grated orange rind.
